Its all in the yarn

Well... this cap was started several years ago when a number of teacher friends and I took a knitting class in downtown Marietta at a now closed shop...such a nice shop too. Anyway, the cap was started there but I lost interest when I realized that the yarn had a small amount of real wool in it making it unusable for the preemie nursery.
Well, it is finally finished...K

Hobbit Socks are done

The Hobbit socks are finally done...

They might look a bit odd but they really do fit, wonder what that says about my feet??? These were made out of heavier sock yarn and bigger needles... now I am starting on my second pair....... real sock yarn, the skinny stuff and size #2 circular needles. Why am I doing this when you can get bags of sock at the store???? Had a couple of people ask me that today :) Does make one wonder doesn't it.K

The Feedsack blocks went in this past week... Hope that folks enjoy getting them... They were fun and not many steps to completion.... What to do with the scraps??? k

Light for People Powered Sewing Machines

Those of us that enjoy a good tour of duty with a treadle or handcrank sewing machine some times suffer from lack of good lighting on the sewing area. Last year I bought two of those new high powered bright bendable lights from my friendly sewing machine guy, the intention was to use one on my e-machine and the other to do duty on my treadles and handcranks. I finally got around to going to the tool store where I found a small round magnet that can pick up something that weighs 16 pounds. I figured any magnet that could pick up 16 lbs could hold that little bendable light in place. The bracket that cames with the bendable light was the same diameter as the magnet, what a deal. The bracket is permanently stuck to the magnet so it can be moved from any metal machine to another. At present it is attached to the faceplate of a Harris 9H hand crank machine. So I don't really have to worry about any scratches that might occure when removing it for transport or the like; however, the magnet has a real hold and can take some prying to get it off, so I am thinking of putting either a circle of mole's cloth on the surface of the magnet or making a flannel bootie to cover the whole magnet and bracket so that the chances of scratches are minimized. Anyway, it works like a champ and serves the purpose very well. But the heavy duty 16 lb magnet is a trophy...k

First Set

The first set of Feedsack (or Repro 1930's fabric) blocks for the TreadleOn block exchange are done. The pattern is a paper pieced one that I modified. Think that I'll do another set but modify it again. What do you think??? k

Boogie the helper kittie

Last night while all was calm, I was sewing on my TreadleOn Feedsack blocks for the February exchange... Boogie, the quality control department, wanted to assist but decided that watching from across the sewing table was the best course of action. She has found the boxes of fabric strips and made one of them her favorite nest for observing activity at the sewing room... k

Bobbins a Plenty

I just can't help myself.
Bobbin lace was the reason way I got into the Atlanta Chapter of IOLI in the first place. I studied with my mentor Betty Kemp for years, enjoying every minute of it. Somewhere a long the time line I learned tatting and never turned back.... I've picked up the bobbins and pillow every now and then but the major part of my lacemaking is now tatting. That, however, doesn't seem to keep me from gathering more bobbins... some are gifts and some are purchases of weakness, maybe I am telling myself that I'll get back to my pillow some day soon... While straightening my computer desk and sewing room one weekend I found all these bobbins tucked away amoungst my other treasures.... They should be in the bobbin box but I am enjoying their bouquet in the mug...something sweet to look at while I work on the computer...k
